What we do
We attract conductors of quality with professional expertise, enabling the orchestra to reach out constantly to new levels of excellence.
Our varied repertoire, based largely in the classical era, features soloists of all ages, on a variety of instruments but all with a high standard of musicianship. We feature local soloists when we can - often current or past players from Peebles Orchestra - and we also encourage the up-and-coming generation of young performers.
We rehearse on Wednesday evenings during the Autumn and Spring terms. Rehearsals are held at 7.30 – 9.30 p.m. in St Joseph’s Neighbourhood Centre, Rosetta Road, Peebles. (Map) We generally have a break for tea/coffee around 8.30; as well as providing refreshment, this gives us an opportunity to chat!
The Orchestra usually presents two symphony concerts each season - one in late Autumn and the
other in the Spring. Concerts are usually held in the Eastgate Theatre or in the Leckie Memorial Church,
Peebles. We sometimes put on an extra concert in the winter, often with a slightly different bias:
eg. a Viennese Evening or a Carol Concert at Christmas.
